According to transfer news from Leicestershire Live, Chelsea are one of the clubs keeping tabs on James Maddison. The Leicester City playmaker is also said to be a priority signing for Arsenal.
Maddison made his senior debut for the Foxes against Man United in the opening game of the 2018-19 campaign and has since evolved into one of the best young creative players in the English top-flight.
The 24-year-old right-footed ace has accumulated an impressive tally of 27 goals and 20 assists in 118 appearances for Leicester across all competitions. Maddison had another decent season where he notched up double figures in terms of goals and assists, while also winning the FA Cup.
Chelsea’s interest in the Leicester playmaker is surprising indeed when they boast of a plethora of attacking talent. However, the likes of Pulisic and Ziyech struggled badly in Tuchel’s new setup. It’s not clear whether that is the reason for going after the Englishman. Nonetheless, Chelsea are all set to rival Arsenal for the signing of the gifted midfielder.
However, one cannot deny that Maddison can be a good addition to the side. With Tuchel deploying two attacking midfielders behind the striker, Maddison can flourish there. He would add depth and quality to the midfield instantly upon his arrival and of course, his best years are still in front of him.
