Chelsea star reaffirms commitment to club despite no contract talks taking place

Antonio Rudiger committed to Chelsea despite no contract talks

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger has iterated his commitment to the club amid delays in contract talks. The German defender has spoken to Thomas Tuchel about his future and remains fully committed to the club despite no discussions over a new contract.

Antonio Rudiger had slipped to the fringes under Frank Lampard in the first half of the season. However, as soon as Thomas Tuchel took over, he became one of the first names on the team sheet. He has started 24 out of 28 games under Tuchel, only missing 3 encounters. He played a vital part in Chelsea’s top-four finish and Champions League win.

Even after his resurgence this season, there remain question marks over his future. The Blues could lose the former Roma man for nothing next season if a new deal is not agreed soon. He was linked with an exit last summer with Spurs, PSG and AC Milan keen to sign him.

Now, Chelsea are in a real spot of bother. His existing deal with the club runs out in a year. From January, he would be able to talk to other clubs over a pre-contract and leave for free next summer. Despite the uncertainty, Rudiger is said to have spoken about wanting to remain at the club and gave Tuchel the same assurance. Chelsea are yet to open contract talks with the defender.

The 28-year-old has kept his options open though. He is keen on a new long-term but could also see out his remaining 12 months and leave for free (h/t Sky Sports).

Chelsea are running out of time to secure his future. Given how he has become a vital part of Tuchel’s new-look side, it is imperative that the Blues convince the defender to put pen to paper on a new deal soon.
