Chelsea have finally confirmed that Fikayo Tomori will be leaving the club on a permanent basis. AC Milan decided to turn his loan deal into a permanent one after he impressed over the last five months.
A product of the Chelsea youth academy, Tomori broke into the first-team in 2019 after loan spells away at Hull City and Derby County. Initially a regular under Frank Lampard, the England international found himself out of favour in the second half of that season.
Tomori dropped further down the pecking order this term following the arrival of Thiago Silva on a free transfer. Having been deprived of game time at the Bridge, he moved to Milan in January, where he thrived. The 23-year-old quickly went about establishing himself as a mainstay at the back for the Rossoneri.
With such impressive showings, Milan were keen on signing him on a permanent deal. Indeed, they did so for £25million, potentially rising to £30million. Tomori’s 15-year association with the Blues finally seems to be coming to an end this summer. While it would be hindsight to say Chelsea should not have let Tomori leave, one can only hope that he continues to flourish in his future.
