According to transfer news from Mirror, Chelsea are looking at Adama Traore as an alternative to Achraf Hakimi. The wing-back from Inter Milan has been chased by Chelsea for a while now but he has shown an interest in joining PSG.
The 22-year-old Moroccan has come leaps and bounds since his breakthrough at Real Madrid. Capable of playing as a full-back on both sides as well as a wingback, Hakimi was a huge influence on Inter winning the Serie A after 11 years.
Chelsea are said to be looking at Hakimi since he can be an ideal fit for Thomas Tuchel’s 3-4-2-1 formation. However, the fact is that other clubs such as PSG are also after the youngster. Hakimi, on his part, is said to prefer a move to the Paris club. That means Chelsea have already identified an alternative in Adama Traore.
Thomas Tuchel feels that the Wolves wide man has the qualities to flourish in the wing-back role. The 25-year-old Wolves man is a quick and strong winger who can leave the best of defenders lying in his wake.
It’s hard to say if Traore can really fit in as a wing-back, although he did do a decent job when he was occasionally used in such a position. He is known to play his best football in the attacking areas and might not offer much in a defensive sense.
While all that is conjecture, Chelsea need a natural wide player due to Tuchel’s formation. If they can’t get in Hakimi, Traore might have to be the one they go for.
