Transfer News: Gerard Moreno could be the Erling Haaland alternative for Chelsea
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t football.london), Chelsea could turn to Gerard Moreno of Villarreal as they look for Erling Haaland alternatives.
The Blues are linked with Haaland for a long time now. However, they have realized that a deal would be difficult and are on the lookout for alternate solutions.
And Moreno could be that man. He was in sparkling form for his side last season, which saw Unai Emery’s men win the UEFA Europa League after beating Manchester United in the final.
Moreno netted 30 times in all competitions for them and was one of the standout players in Spain. That has earned him a role for Spain in the ongoing European Championship.
Chelsea after Gerard Moreno?
His cameo against Sweden in the opening group game was fruitless but he started against Poland and managed to get an assists as the Spaniards secured a 1-1 draw. Chelsea already have Timo Werner but a new striker could help.
The German wasn’t in his best vein of form this past season when it came to goals and some competition for the 25-year-old cannot be harmful. Moreno is also 29, which indicates he has a fair few footballing years still left in him.
According to Football.london, the futures of both Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham are still up for debate. The Frenchman signed a new contract earlier this year but can still leave.
Abraham, on the other hand, has not found any sort of game time under Tuchel in the past few weeks. He was left out of the matchday squads for both the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League finals.

In light of that, a proven goal-scorer like Moreno can be what Chelsea need. If a deal for the deadly Haaland is not possible, the Spaniard presents himself as a viable solution.
