According to Mirror, Chelsea and Leicester have been handed fines for the brawl in their Premier League encounter. 20 men from both sides were involved in a post-match scuffle after tempers flared in what was a high profile clash right after these two played the FA Cup final.
Chelsea have finally learned their punishment for their antics in the Leicester game on 19th May. A close win for Chelsea ensued with the Blues taking an important three points in the race for the top four. The backdrop to this clash was an interesting one, with Leicester winning the FA Cup final.
It was a harsh decision to rule out Ben Chilwell’s equaliser as Leicester pushed to secure the trophy. Leicester celebrated wildly. However, dressing room footage showed that the players disrespected the Chelsea banner and it was a hot-headed clash in the league.
In the 93rd minute, Ricardo Pereira went for a rash tackle on Chilwell which sparked a brawl between both sides. Players and coaches from both sides clashed. Chelsea were visibly worried about the consequences as they had a history of these offences. Nonetheless, both sides were not handed point deductions but a £22,500 fine.
This was the seventh such incident Chelsea have been involved in as many years. A point deduction would have been a huge blow but lucky for us, nothing like that happened. The matches were definitely a little too competitive and one can hope such incidents are not repeated.
