According to transfer news from Birmingham Live, Aston Villa are favourites to land the Chelsea duo of Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Villa are looking to add to their side further after the signing of Emi Buendia.
Tammy has found opportunities hard to come by under Thomas Tuchel and mostly remains on the bench. It was a harsh reminder of how far he had fallen when he was not even in the squad for the Champions League final despite being the club’s top scorer this season.
Loftus-Cheek had a placid loan spell at Fulham and has returned to the club. The big midfielder has struggled to break into Chelsea since making his debut. He has been away on a few loan spells which haven’t exactly gone great.
Now, both of the English players can be offered a way out by Villa. With Ross Barkley’s loan deal expiring, a move for Loftus-Cheek makes sense. Getting a backup for Ollie Watkins will also be required. Villa are no strangers to Abraham, with the striker spending a season on loan there. The club have been deemed to be the next destination for the duo.
It shouldn’t hurt Chelsea that much to let go of the pair. They haven’t cemented a spot in the first-team and there are plenty of players in their positions. Provided Chelsea get a decent fee for them, there should be no hesitation to cash in on them.
