Tuchel warns Chelsea to not be complacent after crucial win vs Leicester

Thomas Tuchel asks Chelsea to not be complacent after win

According to The Guardian, Thomas Tuchel has warned Chelsea to not get complacent after their win over Leicester. He wants his players to finish the job on Sunday against Aston Villa as they have not yet ensured a top-four finish.

It was a relatively straightforward win against Leicester but not without its share of drama. Goals from Antonio Rudiger and Jorginho gave Chelsea some room to withstand Kelechi Iheanacho’s goal. A bit of a skirmish broke out amongst the players due to the recent FA Cup game.

Chelsea are currently on 67 points and Leicester are one below with 66 points. Liverpool, however, have 63 points and one extra game in hand. It means that all three sides are still in with a chance for the last two available spots in the top four.

Despite the important win, Chelsea are not yet home and dry. However, one thing is that it is now entirely up to them to make it through. A win against Villa will make sure that the other two cannot overtake them in any way and Tuchel iterated the same.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel during the Premier League match between Chelsea and Leicester City at Stamford Bridge, London, England on 18 May 2021.

“It felt like a huge effort and a top performance. We have to push it over the line on Sunday. It was full of intensity and hunger and ambition. We played many minutes with a lot of quality for a well deserved win. It was not the time for celebration. It is not more than three points. There is another one to catch on Sunday. We have to be prepared.”

Villa are always tricky customers to deal with and they are no pushovers. Chelsea will need that win to make sure they are responsible for their own result and not dependent on either Leicester or Liverpool. Nonetheless, Chelsea have done well to return back to winning ways.
