Speaking in his pre-match press conference (h/t Football.london), Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has cast doubts on the involvement of star midfielder N’Golo Kante for the final game of the league season against Aston Villa.
Chelsea travel to Villa Park this Sunday for the final game of the Premier League. The midweek win over Leicester City at home has put the Blues in a strong position with respect to the top-four finish, seeing as we moved into third place after the result.
However, the job is far from done and Tuchel & co. will need a win against the Villans in order to ensure that the team secures UCL qualification for next term. But it seems like we may have to do so without the services of star man Kante. The Frenchman went off midway through the first half in the game against Leicester due to a hamstring niggle.
And Tuchel has now confirmed that the diminutive midfielder is yet to to join team training and if he doesn’t by tomorrow, he will not be involved.
“With NG it’s going to be very close but there are some hopes he joins team training tomorrow. If not, he’ll join on Monday.”
There was some good news from the German gaffer though as he confirmed that Andreas Christensen is fully fit and back in contention for the game. Kai Havertz, meanwhile, will undergo a late fitness test to determine his availability.
“Andreas Christensen will be in the squad. He did full training today and yesterday without any problems. So he will be back. Kai did a test today and will be tested in team training tomorrow.”
Chelsea need to grab all three points against Aston Villa or be dependent on results elsewhere. Having Kante would have been beneficial but we’d rather have him fit and firing in the UCL final later this month against Manchester City.
