According to transfer news from INSIDEFUTBOL, Fiorentina have shown an interest in Chelsea outcast Davide Zappacosta. The Italian defender is scheduled to return to Chelsea when his loan spell ends at Genoa at the end of the season.
The 28-year-old Italian signed for the Blues in the summer of 2017 from Torino in a deal worth £23m. However, the full-back was never able to establish himself as a regular in the first-team at the Bridge.
Zappacosta, during his time at Chelsea, has made 52 appearances, scoring two goals and assisting four more. Having been sparingly used in the 2018/19 term, Zappacosta was loaned out to AS Roma. However, the 28-year-old failed to make the most of his time at the Italian capital club, making just nine appearances in the 2019/20 season.
However, he did enjoy a fairly successful spell at Genoa this season. He went on to make 25 Serie A appearances while contributing to 6 goals. The Italian side don’t have an option to sign him on a permanent deal which means he will return to Chelsea and still have a year left on his contract.
Now, it has been reported that Fiorentina have set their sights on the wingback to strengthen their squad. Nonetheless, interest in Zappacosta from Italy remains high with Atalanta and Napoli also after him.
Zappacosta does not appear to have a future at Chelsea with the club having the likes of Reece James and Azpilicueta to play on the right side of the defence. Letting Zappacosta leave to an interested club like Fiorentina might be the best option for both parties.
