According to transfer news from Football Insider, Chelsea are mulling over a swap deal between Timo Werner and Erling Haaland. The Blues are among the select few clubs who can afford Haaland but even they are considering a swap deal with Werner going the other way.
The Blues have shown tremendous interest in the player along with the rest of the elite European clubs, meaning that they will have to stump up heavy cash to land him. The Norwegian is arguably the hottest prospect in the world right now and has impressed heavily at Borussia Dortmund. Europe’s biggest clubs are now circling around him.
He does have a release clause that gets activated in the summer of 2022 but a host of clubs want a deal this year, none more than Chelsea, who have a striker problem on their hands. While Chelsea did bring in Timo Werner, his faltering form has raised questions about whether he can make his mark at the club.
Now it could all add up for Chelsea as they want Haaland. But his £100million valuation could be a sticking factor. However, they have Timo Werner, who they are willing to offer in exchange for the Norwegian sensation. With clubs like Man City and Liverpool also after Haaland, offering Werner could be the edge that Chelsea hold at this point.
Chelsea are hoping that some amount of cash plus Werner would be enough to coax Dortmund into letting go of their prized asset. As for Werner, it may seem harsh but the fact is that he has been given one too many chances and he hasn’t taken them.
