Transfer News: Chelsea target Sergio Aguero is heading to Barcelona
According to transfer news from Metro, Chelsea target Sergio Aguero appears to be set on a move to Barcelona. Pep Guardiola gave a not-so-vague hint about the striker’s future and pretty much spilled the beans that Aguero was heading to his former club Barcelona.
The Manchester City striker is set to call time on his stay at the club after 10 years and that had led to a whole host of clubs such as Barcelona and Chelsea being keen on his services. The race for Aguero was heating up as he was set to be a free agent at the end of this season.
Both clubs have had their issues in attack this season with Barcelona lacking options after the departure of Luis Suarez. Chelsea, on the other hand, have been often forced to play Kai Havertz as a false nine due to Timo Werner’s profligacy in front of goal.
Nonetheless, Chelsea have very likely missed out on Aguero. Pep Guardiola revealed that the striker was heading to Barcelona in the aftermath of City’s win over Everton.
“Maybe I reveal a secret. Maybe he is close to agreeing a deal for the club of my heart… for Barcelona. He is going to be playing alongside the best player of all time, Messi. I’m pretty sure he is going to enjoy. And maybe Barcelona are stronger and stronger with him on the pitch.”

Despite his age and injury issues, Aguero still remains a world-class option to have. Yes, he may not be the long-term option for Chelsea but he could be the short-term solution we could do with. Nonetheless, Chelsea will now have to turn their attentions to other attacking targets after missing out on the Argentine.
