Transfer News: Chelsea linked Harry Lee advised to remain at Exeter
According to transfer news from Devon Live, Chelsea target Harry Lee has been asked to commit his future to Exeter City. Manager Matt Taylor wants the young shot-stopper to stay at Exeter and hone his craft before stepping into the bigger teams.
Still just 15 years old, the keeper is another talented player in a long line of such players to emerge in recent times. The keeper has also gone on a trial to Chelsea and Everton, which should give one an idea of the potential he carries.
Nonetheless, his manager is a bit worried and wants him to remain at Exeter for the time being given the interest from Chelsea. He wants the teenager to develop his skills and make his breakthrough for the first-team. He is already playing for the U-18s.
Taylor gave the examples of Premier League stalwarts David James and Joe Hart who rose up from the lower league to become renowned Premier League keepers.
“I am sure Harry will play at the top level, but we hope his pathway is to learn with ourselves and get an opportunity with ourselves. It’s different to outfield players, outfield players want to go straight away, but he is going to be a professional footballer for the next 20 years. Hopefully, what he learns in the next two seasons – possibly more – with ourselves will be invaluable in terms of what he goes on to do.
“If he can play 50-100 games, then what a great experience that would be. And then he could be like David James because he is that young and he would be playing early in his career, but the worry is that he goes and signs for a club and doesn’t play.”
