Transfer News: Chelsea interested in re-signing ex-star Mohamed Salah

According to transfer news update from German journalist Christian Falk of BILD, Chelsea are interested in securing the signing of former star Mohamed Salah from Liverpool this summer.

Salah is the one that got away for Chelsea. Having signed the Egyptian forward from FC Basel in January 2014, the Blues, under then-manager Jose Mourinho, failed o get the best out of him before he was farmed out to Fiorentina on loan a year after he arrived.

A season-long loan followed at AS Roma in 2015/16 before that transfer was made permanent. Salah enjoyed couple of fine campaigns in Rome, prompting serious investment from Liverpool to secure his services in 2017. Since then, Salah has been near-unstoppable, plundering 123 goals and 45 assists for the club in around 200 appearances. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Salah was integral to Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League and Premier League trophies. And, having watched him grow at a rival club, Chelsea are now interested in bringing Salah back to the club, as per Falk.

Heading into the new season, a new centre-fowrard is being prioritised at Chelsea with the likes of Erling Haaland and another former star, Romelu Lukaku being linked with a transfer. The interest makes a great deal of sense as well, given as Olivier Giroud is out of contract at the end of the season while Tammy Abraham has been out of favour under Thomas Tuchel.

With Timo Werner also blowing hot and cold, adding another prolific goalscorer in the midst could propel us to the top in the Premier League. Salah, to that end, would be a brilliant addition to our roster.

Salah, during his first stint with Chelsea, managed just 19 appearances in which he scored twice. Now, one of the best in the game, the forward has produced a stunning tally of 29 goals in the current campaign. It now remains to be seen whether a move back to Stamford Bridge comes to fruition.
