A report by Sky Sports (h/t The Express) mentions that Chelsea are the preferred destination for Arsenal winger Willian, who only joined the Gunners just 12 months back.
The Brazilian left Stamford Bridge as a free agent after 7 years at the club and joined London rivals, Arsenal. However, things have gone awry for him.
The 32-year-old took 37 appearances to net his first goal for his new club. At the end of this season, he had played in 25 Premier League games but only managed a solitary goal.
And now, he has been linked with a move to David Beckham’s Inter Miami in the MLS. However, the report mentions that Chelsea would be Willian’s preferred destination. (h/t The Express)
The former Shakhtar Donetsk man made over 300 appearances for the Blues, winning two Premier League titles in that time. Earlier this month, Willian’s current boss, Mikel Arteta, stated that the Brazilian is likely to remain at Arsenal next season.
“This is an assessment that we will do individually with the players and with Edu, the board and the ownership to make the right decisions for the future. Every player that is under contract is very likely to be here with us next season.”
Thomas Tuchel has a pretty team set up for him right now and Willian probably does not fit in the starting XI. With wingers like Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi fighting for places already, Willian might have to settle for time on the sidelines.
However, he could be a good acquisition if squad depth is concerned, especially with top clubs playing a ton of games every season. Willian would be a good option off the bench and his set-piece prowess can also benefit the team from time to time.
The 22-year-old made a top class performance and marked an assist in Chelsea's 3-0 win against West Ham.
