Thomas Tuchel reveals what impact win vs Man City will have on UCL final

Thomas Tuchel says win vs Manchester City will boost confidence ahead of UCL final for Chelsea

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Daily Mail) after his team beat Manchester City on Saturday, Thomas Tuchel stated that while the win serves as a confidence booster for Chelsea, it will not impact the UEFA Champions League final.

The Blues came away with a massive win over the Citizens this weekend. Raheem Sterling opened the scoring just before half time but Pep Guardiola’s side failed to double their lead after Sergio Aguero fluffed his lines from the penalty spot.

Hakim Ziyech equalized later on before Marcos Alonso scored a stoppage winner to hand Chelsea a 2-1 win. This puts Chelsea in 3rd place, a point ahead of Leicester City in 4th.

Marcos Alonso scored the late winner for Chelsea against Manchester City.

And Tuchel believes that while the win is a big morale-booster, the Champions League final is a unique game where this win would have no impact.

“It gives us confidence because it’s all about the performance. This result won’t change much as the final is a very unique game, you can’t predict what will happen and we need to be prepared. We both will have chances.”

Close to glory

However, the German manager admits that he is confident that his team can beat City. It is a belief that his side held on Saturday and will hold in the Champions League final on 29th May.

“We arrive with the knowledge that we are capable of beating them, that’s what we have now and this won’t change much to Istanbul.”

Tuchel has completely transformed the fortunes of the side since he has come in as a replacement for Frank Lampard this January.

From the risk of finishing mid-table, he has guided us to a European final and a certain top 4 finish. This will be Chelsea’s 3rd Champions League final in history while City would be appearing in the showpiece occasion for the first time ever.
