“In the middle of it”- Thomas Tuchel reveals Chelsea’s target for next season

Thomas Tuchel reveals what Chelsea will target next season as he gives verdict on Top 4 race

Speaking before the game against Aston Villa on Sunday (h/t Daily Star), Thomas Tuchel revealed that Chelsea will aim to be in the middle of the top 4 race from day 1 next season.

The Blues are still in the business end of their current season. They take on The Villans in an enthralling last gameweek clash that will decide their top 4 fate.

Tuchel’s men sit in third at 67 points, just 1 ahead of Leicester City and Liverpool. And the German manager wants his team to be in the thick of the top-4 action from the get-go next season while also improving on their performances.

Chelsea could make the top 4 this season after their penultimate Premier League game against Aston Villa.

“We want to be in there in the middle of it, not behind that, we want to be in the middle of it from the first day, of course, but there are always reasons for different scenarios. Next season’s target is to start good, to improve and to be consistent, because we can produce high-level performances.”

Eyes on the prize

He mentions that clubs like The Foxes and Tottenham Hotspur will still challenge for the top spots next season, so his team cannot afford to let their guard down. Spurs have missed out on the Champions League this season but Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester are still in the mixer.

“Next season Leicester, Tottenham and all these clubs will not stop fighting for a place in top four. Everybody wants to be safe, ideally some days before the last day in the league but you never know what can happen. You have to adapt if difficulties come up.”

The former PSG boss went on to mention that the club will aim to iron out their problems as soon as they can. For now, the concentration should be against the clash against Dean Smith’s men. (h/t Daily Star)

Chelsea can manage to finish 5th but still make next season’s UEFA Champions League by winning this year’s competition on May 29th against Manchester City.

But that is too big a risk to take. The biggest players in the world would naturally prefer a club playing in the biggest competitions and if the Blues want to strengthen their squad in the summer, their status as a UCL club could certainly play a big role in that.
