“My second home” – Defensive star claims he would welcome a new long-term contract at Chelsea

Andreas Christensen wants to sign new deal at Chelsea

According to Metro, Andreas Christensen has spoken about his desire to renews his contract with Chelsea. The Danish defender wants to stay at the club for a long time and is hoping that will be the case with a new contract.

The Danish defender has been in fine form ever since he replaced Thiago Silva against Tottenham Hotspur at half-time. Since then, Chelsea have hardly conceded goals apart from the West Brom game where Thiago Silva was sent off.

Christensen established himself at Chelsea during the 2017-18 campaign. He reached great heights under former boss Antonio Conte, who brought the best out of the Dane by utilising him in the middle of his back-three system.

Under Frank Lampard, he failed to show the same consistency and was benched on numerous occasions. However, since Thomas Tuchel took over, he has been at the heart of a three-man defence that has looked very hard to break down.

Now enjoying one of his better spells at the club, Christensen wants to commit his future to the club.

‘I’ve shown that I’m here for the long run. I’ve been here almost nine, 10 years now. I’ve never doubted my decision [to come to Chelsea] and I’ve always been here for the long run. I accept that the club sometimes changes managers, and that can make it hard to always be in the team.

There have not been any talks [on a contract extension] yet, but like I said, I’m in this for the long run and I always have been. I feel like this is my second home. Denmark will always be my home, but Chelsea will always be my place.’

Christensen’s current deal runs out in a year and Chelsea would be well aware of the same. The Dane may have had a bad patch under the likes of Sarri and Lampard but he is back to his best now under Tuchel. He has shown that he is a capable defender with the right players around him and Chelsea would be served well if they renew his deal.
