Chelsea frontman Tammy Abraham was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s 20-man FA Cup final matchday squad against Leicester City and the striker has now stated that the defeat ‘hurts’ but there is still ‘unfinished business’. (h/t Metro)
It was surprising to many when Abraham was not named in the FA Cup final team. He is, after all, their joint top-scorer this season with 12 goals in all competitions and has netted 4 times in the FA Cup itself.
But none of that seemed to matter to Tuchel who kept with his recent trend of not giving starts to the English striker. Abraham has not started even once in the last 11 Premier League games. (h/t Transfermarkt)
After he was left out of the team on Saturday, his girlfriend Leah Monroe slammed Thomas Tuchel on her Instagram story in a message that has since been deleted. It read:
“How on earth do you make the decision to leave your top goalscorer out of the squad for a final? The same person who even scored the goals to actually qualify for this competition? It’s not making any sense whatsoever.”
Abraham has since come out to cool down the issue by posting a photo on his Instagram account with a caption that raises no eyebrows and states that the FA Cup final defeat ‘hurts’ but there is still a lot to fight for this season.
“It hurts but we still have unfinished business. Thank you for your support, good to have you back 💙”
Abraham would be hoping that he features in some capacity in the remaining three games; Chelsea’s whole season has come to depend on it.
They need positive results from their encounters against Leicester City and Aston Villa to make top 4 before facing Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League final on 29th May.
