According to Independent, Chelsea midfield star Jorginho has committed his immediate future to the club. This comes amidst rumours that the Italian was to move to Camp Nou in a swap deal for Miralem Pjanic.
The 29-year-old moved to Chelsea in 2018 from Napoli, along with manager Maurizio Sarri. Jorginho struggled in his first season as he looked a bit slow for the fast-paced nature of the Premier League. His form improved over the last season and he was one of Frank Lampard’s most trusted players.
This season, however, despite starting strongly, he did go off the radar a bit. Under Thomas Tuchel, he made a strong start. He is often deployed as one of the two central midfielders in Tuchel’s set-up on a rotational basis.
In recent weeks, Jorginho’s future has come under speculation. A return to the Serie A has been talked about as well as a swap deal to Barcelona. Nonetheless, he has put all that to rest with his latest comments.
“Of course, of course I do feel settled. When I came here, everything was different. But I felt welcome straight away. It feels great after three years, and I know everyone here appreciates what I try to do for the club and for the people. So it feels like home now in England.
“It’s definitely not the time to think about contracts with two finals to play! How could I want to leave the club? That’s not the point. It’s not the point even talking about it now. I’ve got two more years and like I said, I really feel at home here. So there’s no point actually even talking about it. And we have only just started under Thomas – we’ve got a lot more to do here.”
This does bode well given how important Jorginho has become under Thomas Tuchel. He dictates the play well from the middle and controls the game. With the player clearing the situation, the speculation could be put to rest now.
