Journalist provides major update over Chelsea target’s contract terms at Bundesliga club

Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea owner Todd Boehly wanted to sign Erling Haaland.

Transfer News: Erling Haaland to Chelsea made tougher by terms at Borussia Dortmund

Speaking to ARD (h/t Fabrizio Romano), Michael Zorc stated that Chelsea transfer target, Erling Haaland, does not have a gentleman’s agreement with Borussia Dortmund to depart the club under certain conditions.

This agreement, according to the quote, exists between Dortmund and Jadon Sancho. However, that is not the case with the Norwegian striker, says Zorc.

“We already had a gentlemen’s agreement with Jadon Sancho since last year that he can leave the club under certain conditions However, this agreement does not exist with Erling Haaland.”

Haaland has been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United recently and it is no surprise why. The 20-year-old has 37 goals from 38 games in all competitions this season for the German side.

But Zorc’s quotes clearly imply that teams will not have it easy if they want to sign the striker. He reportedly has a release clause but that activates in the summer of 2022.

Where will Haaland go?

So Chelsea would not only have to compete with other top clubs for Haaland, but also make sure that they make an offer that sits right with the forward’s club.

Thomas Tuchel has clearly fixed the defensive department of the club since replacing Frank Lampard in January. But what the club now needs is seemingly goals up front.

Timo Werner has improved under the German manager but his goal-scoring rate is still underwhelming. As for Olivier Giroud, he will be 35 by the end of this year.

And the Frenchman, along with Tammy Abraham, may not even be at the club next season (h/t Daily Mail). But even if all three strikers stay, Haaland would be an upgrade on all of them if raw goal-scoring statistics are considered.
