Mason Mount hit back at Toni Kroos after Chelsea got the better of Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals (h/t Metro). The Chelsea youngster responded to Kroos’ pre-game jibe that he did not lose sleep due to the pressure.
Chelsea ran out as comfortable winners against Real Madrid in the semi-finals to secure a place in the final. Timo Werner and Mason Mount were the decisive goal scorers as the Blues won 2-0 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate.
Ahead of the game, words were exchanged between both sides as each tried to unnerve the other. Toni Kroos was among the Real Madrid players who sent a retort that he did not lose sleep over this game against Chelsea nor any game in the last 15 years of his career.
However, Mount who scored the decisive second goal had a cheeky reply to that post-game.
‘I saw one of their players say before that he doesn’t lose sleep over individuals. But as a team, they need to lose sleep over us as a team. We give so much, we defend for our lives. You saw that in not many chances that we gave away. We are solid and we need to keep that going.’
While we don’t know about sleep, Chelsea surely did not give Real Madrid one moment of peace from the first whistle. They overran their opponents in white and overwhelmed them through the game. It was visible how little influence Kroos could exert. Mount was right in pointing out the team spirit Chelsea showed.
