A report by The Athletic (subscription required) [h/t Irish Mirror] mentions that Liverpool would not sell Mohamed Salah to a rival Premier League club after links with a return to Chelsea.
A report by German outlet Bild (h/t Irish Mirror) linked the Egyptian superstar with a return to Stamford Bridge. Salah spent 3 seasons at Chelsea making just 19 appearances in all competitions.
But Thomas Tuchel was touted to bring Salah back to London. That, however, is no longer the case with the report mentioning that there is ‘absolutely zero chance’ that the Reds let him join a Premier League rival.
Liverpool have had a torrid season but the former AS Roma winger has still managed to net 29 goals in all competitions. Those numbers are really pretty impressive considering he is not even playing as a number 9. (h/t transfermarkt)
There is no doubt that someone like him would add immense potency to the Blues attack. But it now seems like the German manager would have to consider other options, with Salah not being one of them.
The Blues reportedly want to bring back Romelu Lukaku to the Bridge or sign Erling Haaland in an audacious deal to boost their attack.
Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham don’t look like they feature in Tuchel’s long-term options while Timo Werner is still not scoring at the rate he did back in Germany. In such a situation, signing a number 9 seems pretty important.
It is no hiding that Tuchel has shored up the backline since he came in for Frank Lampard back in January. What now remains is to add goals to this Chelsea team and they can reach a new level under the former Borussia Dortmund boss.
