Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel claims other clubs are jealous of his side
Speaking in a press conference (h/t Football.london) ahead of the encounter against Leicester City, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel claimed that a lot of clubs are ‘jealous’ of the situation his team are in right now despite their recent defeats.
It has not been a good few days for the Blues. A loss to Arsenal in the league blew the top 4 race wide open and it was followed by a damaging defeat to Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester in the FA Cup final.
Now, fans fear that a season, which promised so much, could end up in heartbreak. But the Chelsea gaffer says that if his team were strong enough to reach the finals and be in the top 4 race, then they will be strong enough to handle the next few games.
“If you have a group that arrives in this final, arrives in the Champions League final and in place nine or ten for top four, there’s no reason to doubt we’re not strong enough to handle this situation. Strong enough to arrive here, strong enough to handle the situation. That’s the challenge.”
Masters of our own destiny
Despite the FA Cup final loss, the Blues are still masters of their own destiny in the Premier League top-4 race. Two wins from their two remaining games will see them finish 3rd in the table.
And of course, Tuchel’s final have a Champions League final date with Manchester City at the end of this month. This is why the former Borussia Dortmund boss thinks that a lot of clubs envy his team for the situation they are in at the moment.
“Is it easy? No. It’s fun because this is what it is about [getting positive results in the next 3 games]. There are a lot of teams out there jealous of our situation I can tell you.”
Those teams would be even more jealous if Chelsea could trump City on 29th May to lift their second UEFA Champions League title in history. And if that happens, Chelsea would still make next season’s UCL no matter where they end up in the table.
