Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard in contention for Crystal Palace job

Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard in contention to take Crystal Palace job

According to The Telegraph, former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is the frontrunner to take over at Crystal Palace. Current manager Roy Hodgson remained coy on his future and the Chelsea icon has been listed as the most likely to take over next season.

Lampard, a Chelsea legend, was named the first-team manager ahead of the 2019/20 season after Maurizio Sarri was sacked. Prior to taking up the job, the former midfielder had just one season of managerial experience under him, with EFL Championship club Derby County.

While Lampard did largely well in his first season, leading Chelsea to a top-four finish with a transfer embargo in place, things started to unravel for him in the ongoing campaign. Inconsistent performances, poor results and the inability to get the best out of the marquee summer signings meant that he was let go of by the Blues in January earlier this year.

Roy Hodgson’s future is uncertain

Crystal Palace could be set for a summer of change, especially in terms of the manager. Roy Hodgson’s contract is set to end this season. There have been reports of him retiring from management given he is already 73 years of age.

That has led Palace to look at a few replacements in case Hodgson does not continue at Selhurst Park. Among the names, Frank Lampard is the one that looks the most interesting. Lampard, though, wants to assess his options before diving back into management. He will also seek assurances that Palace will give him enough time to get results.

More Chelsea News:

Palace have also kept Eddie Howe and Sean Dyche as the other options. Lampard has been off management since Chelsea let him go in January. It will no doubt be interesting to see the Chelsea icon back in the Premier League and proving his mettle.
