According to Football.london, Ousmane Dembele has heaped the praise on Thomas Tuchel amidst links to Chelsea. The Barcelona forward claimed that Tuchel was his favourite manager and spoke about how he guided him during their spell at Dortmund.
The 23-year-old joined Barcelona in 2017 for big money but has not shown a consistent run of performances. Both injuries and inconsistency have seen him struggle to produce his best on a regular basis. With his contract expiring in 2022, Barcelona are running out of time to renew his deal.
While Dembele has had his share of injury problems and was almost heading out of the club last summer, he has managed to turn things around this season. Amidst Barcelona’s upturn in form, Dembele has been a central part, scoring 10 goals and assisting 4 in 40 appearances. However, it could all be in vain for Barcelona as they could lose the player next season if they cannot extend his contract.
Recently, Dembele spoke out on Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, which should give the club some encouragement in their pursuit of the player.
“Thomas Tuchel really convinced me, he is my favourite manager. With Thomas Tuchel I played a bit more on the right side at the beginning of the season, and then I was moved more centrally, in the 10 position, sometimes even in the midfield three you see. And he told me to stay a bit more central, have an espresso as he used to say to me, the ball will come to you and then you will go. It would have been hard to leave Dortmund if Tuchel had stayed.”
Tuchel was in charge of Dortmund when Dembele spent his only season at the club before departing for Barcelona. With the player working previously under Tuchel and now claiming him as his favourite coach, Chelsea do hold some edge if they want to sign him.
