According to Daily Mail, Chelsea star Christian Pulisic has aired his frustrations of playing a bit-part role under Thomas Tuchel. The American winger was on the bench against Real Madrid but came on to provide the assist for Mason Mount’s goal.
Christian Pulisic joined the club amid much fan-fare in 2019 but it was not until the latter stages that he started performing. This season too, Pulisic has blown hot and cold but is slowly getting into the rhythm as the business end approaches.
Against Real Madrid in the first leg, he showed that he meant business right from the start. With Courtois approaching, he did well to attract him further and pull him out of goal, only to dribble past him. With the goal only being covered by Varane and Nacho, Pulisic picked his spot and shot fiercely, which ricocheted off Varane into the net.
After the first leg performance, it was expected that he would start again in the second. However, that was not to be as he was named as a sub. While he did come on midway through the second half and assist the all-important second goal, he vented his frustrations on playing such sporadic roles.
‘Very frustrated. Yeah not much else to say. I wanted to play from the beginning as I always do. I’ve had to continue to prove myself over and over again. But as always I just reach out to God and He gives me strength. With that behind me nothing can stop me really.’
The manager and player have endured an uneasy relationship at Chelsea with Tuchel not providing regular starts for the American. Tuchel will eventually have to figure out something given that Pulisic wants to play under a manager who trusts him to do the job. An interesting summer awaits the pair.
