According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea will have to break their transfer record as well as wage structure to sign Romelu Lukaku. The Blues might have to pay a staggering £103m for their former striker while also making him their highest earner.
Lukaku is no stranger to Chelsea given he spent three years at the club. He spent the second and third years of his Stamford Bridge career out on loan before leaving permanently for Everton. Nonetheless, he has managed to lift up his career to greater heights with his stint at Inter Milan.
The Italian side are in a financial mess despite their recent Serie A win. They are in a dire position where they need to raise funds through player sales and wage cuts. Now with Antonio Conte departing the club due to the same reasons, Lukaku could join suit.
Nonetheless, Chelsea could be looking at a massive outlay if they do want to bring back their former striker. Inter Milan are looking to get around £103m for their prized asset, meaning Chelsea would have to eclipse the £75m they paid for Kai Havertz.
There is also the case for Lukaku’s wage. The Inter striker currently earns £260,000 per week and would be looking at a significant pay rise. That is bound to overtake the wages of Chelsea’s highest earner, Kai Havertz.
It is clear that bringing back Lukaku will not be easy on the pocket. Chelsea could be looking at a huge outlay for quite a few years. However, if he can manage to solve their goalscoring issues, it would make sense to go after him.
