According to news from Caught Offside, Thomas Tuchel is very close to agreeing on a new contract with Chelsea. The Blues are keen on the prospect of doing so with his current deal ending in 2022.
It’s hard to sometimes remember that Frank Lampard was in charge of the club halfway through the season. Such has been the impact of Tuchel since taking over in late January this year. From a side struggling to break into the top six to challenging for two trophies and top 4, the Blues have surely come a long way under the former PSG manager.
It was clear from the first game that Thomas Tuchel meant business and set about doing so. He changed the entire formation to a back three and deployed different tactics that made Chelsea a solid team than before. He brought back players frozen out by Lampard and threw them into the first team.
Chelsea are currently fourth in the league, close to securing a place in the Champions League and in the final of the FA Cup. Now that is no short of a wonder. To reward those efforts, Chelsea are planning to hand him a new contract that will extend his stay beyond 2022.
With the work he has done in just three months, it’s hard to argue with Chelsea’s decision. He has completely transformed Chelsea from a wayward side to a side that can go toe-to-toe with Europe’s elite. Fans will no doubt be happy on hearing this.
