Tuchel gives injury update on key Chelsea star ahead of do-or-die Champions League tie

Thomas Tuchel gives major Mason Mount injury update before Chelsea vs Real Madrid

Speaking after his team’s win against Fulham (h/t Metro), Thomas Tuchel stated that he took off Mason Mount as a precautionary measure and is hopeful that the midfielder does not have a serious injury before Chelsea take on Real Madrid.

The Blues were emphatic winners against their West London rivals on Saturday. A brace from Kai Havertz was enough to hand Chelsea all three points and tighten their grip on 4th.

However, there was one moment which worried fans and staff alike. Mount landed awkwardly on his back in the closing stages of the game and was replaced by Tammy Abraham in the 76th minute.

And the German manager has revealed that it was done to protect Mount from aggravating an injury, if he did suffer one against the Cottagers.

“I saw him landing hard. We wanted to take him off if we had the chance and then I saw he was touching his back a little bit. So we didn’t want to take any risks but I have no other information right now so I think he should be absolutely fine.”

Tuchel stays hopeful

But just before that, Tuchel stated that Mount should fully recover for the game against Real Madrid. The Blues take on the Spanish giants in the 2nd leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final on Wednesday.

“I hope really that Mason [Mount] is not a big thing and hopefully he can fully recover for Real Madrid.”

The Blues would be hoping to make the most of their away goal as they host the 13-time Champions League winners at Stamford Bridge. The first leg finished 1-1 after the Blues outplayed the hosts in Spain.

Madrid will have to score in order to avoid elimination as a scoreless draw will put Chelsea through on away goals. If Tuchel gets the result he wants, this would be Chelsea’s first UCL final since 2012.
