Chelsea in talks over pre-season Charity Cup with Arsenal and Tottenham

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are in talks over hosting a pre-season Charity Cup. The London trio are keen on this Charity Cup instead of a usual tour in the pre-season. The money raised will be given to charity.

As we close in on a month since the whole European Super League debacle that left a scar on the footballing fraternity, the fallout from it still continues. While financial sanctions have been handed out, the general opinion of the fans remains on the bitter side towards their clubs.

London clubs deciding on Charity Cup

Nonetheless, clubs are trying to take measures to rectify that by hosting fan forums. They are also taking steps to include fans in the decision-making process. Amidst all that, Chelsea have held a dialogue with their London rivals Arsenal and Spurs over hosting a Charity Cup in the pre-season.

While the club would usually go on a tour to the USA or Australia for pre-season games, the London based trio are willing to host a tournament. It has been said that this is a move to sway fan sentiments as all the proceeds from the games would directly go towards charity.

There are also underlying factors such as allowing fans to be in stadiums to generate more revenue. Another reason for this idea is that with COVID restrictions on travel, clubs are trying to maximise their income via these domestic friendlies. So far, talks about the Charity Cup are in the early stages. It is expected to get the green light from the Premier League nonetheless.
