According to transfer news from Yorkshire Post, Chelsea have received a boost in their pursuit of Matthew Sorinola. The youngster has rejected a new deal with MK Dons and could be set for a move next season.
Born in south London, Matthew Sorinola started his footballing education at Fulham. He spent seven years in the Cottagers’ youth ranks between 2009 and 2016 before moving to MK Dons to further his development. After signing a professional contract in June 2019, the 19-year-old made three first-team appearances for Dons in the 2019-20 EFL Trophy.
That was followed by a brief loan spell at Beaconsfield Town during the second half of last season. The teenager has enjoyed a senior breakthrough at his parent club this term, featuring in 43 of MK Dons’ games so far.
Chelsea are known for signing the brightest European talents. That has led to unprecedented success at the youth levels. The 20-year-old has earned rave reviews for his impressive breakthrough at MK Dons in League One this season. While he is hardly the finished article just yet, Sorinola has the potential to get better in his career moving forward.
It has now been reported that the player could refuse to extend his stay with MK Dons. The player is said to keen on a move away from the club in the summer. That would give Chelsea an impetus to follow on their interest in the player.
With Chelsea giving youth a chance in recent seasons, it makes sense to go for Sorinola. For now, Chelsea might have to send the player on loan if they sign him due to the first-team already being stacked.
