According to Evening Standard, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has hit out on the scheduling of the Leicester game. The German manager felt that there was no reason for such a crucial game to be played against the same opponents who played the FA Cup final on Saturday.
As Chelsea still try to dust themselves off the FA Cup final loss, they will not get much time to do so actually. The opponents of Saturday are again set to square off tonight but this time it’s a Champions League place at stake.
Neither team can afford a loss and neither can settle for a draw, which would hand the initiative to Liverpool. Virtually an unofficial playoff, Thomas Tuchel was visibly frustrated with the timing of the game, especially after just three days of the FA Cup final.
“We never understood this and we said before that we could not understand because both teams are involved and it would have been easier for both teams to have had a Wednesday game because the next game is Sunday.
“There is absolutely no reason to play Saturday, Tuesday, Sunday. It is absolutely logical to play the game on Wednesday. From a sporting side, nobody can disagree. But, okay, we were surprised we could not change and we cannot wish for another date to play, so we will be ready tomorrow.”
Chelsea have hit a bit of a snag at the wrong time under Tuchel. However, they cannot dwell on anything and have to finish the season well. Two games in the Premier League and a Champions League final are still left. By no means can Chelsea falter further.
