According to news from Mirror, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel would prefer to face real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals. The Blues will face the winner of the Real Madrid-Liverpool tie which is currently being led by Real.
Chelsea had enough in the tank to endure a late goal from Porto. The tie ended in a 2-1 aggregate win for Chelsea as Mehdi Taremi struck late. The win takes Chelsea to their first Champions League semi-final appearance since 2014.
The Blues’ opponents are yet to be determined as Real travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool in the second leg. Liverpool are trailing by 2 goals as they aim to conjure one of their classic Anfield comebacks.
Chelsea have encountered Liverpool thrice in the semi-final stages of the competition back in 2005, 2007 and 2008. However, Tuchel is keen on avoiding the Reds and wants to face Real instead in the semi-finals, citing that he would like to play foreign teams.
Liverpool have a mountain to climb as they lost the first leg 3-1. However, that one away goal does give them some hope in turning it around. Whoever wins the tie, a resolute Chelsea and Tuchel await them in the next round.
