Transfer News: Thomas Tuchel could be reunited with Adrien Rabiot at Chelsea
A report by Italian outlet Tutto Mercato (h/t The Sun) states that Chelsea could set up a reunion between Thomas Tuchel and Juventus midfielder, Adrien Rabiot.
Rabiot was at PSG when Tuchel was at the helm. And the German gaffer froze the midfielder out of his squad in the second half of the 2018/19 season due to him not renewing his contract.
He later admitted in February 2019 that this decision was made over his head.
“I did not ask for Rabiot’s reinstatement. The situation is the same as in November. The club decided to suspend Adrien. I can understand the club and I accept this decision. The situation has not changed.”
Tug of war
So with no evident bad blood between the two, Chelsea could be a potential destination for the 26-year-old. The Old Lady is looking to free out some space in order to conduct a rebuild.
And Rabiot could be sold so that the club can sign a new player. But if Chelsea want to sign him, they would have to fend off any potential suitors for the Frenchman.
He is still a regular fixture in the Juventus squad and has made 36 appearances in all competitions so far this season. And Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is said to be a fan of the player.
The report adds that another former PSG boss, Carlo Ancelotti, is also keen on a reunion at Everton. Another possibility that has been recently mentioned is that of a swap deal with Manchester United for Donny van de Beek.

So, the Blues would know that signing Rabiot would not be the easiest task. But if Juve are willing to sell for a reasonable price and Chelsea have the capabilities to meet that, then a deal would really bolster the club’s midfield.
