According to transfer news from TEAMtalk, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is interested in signing AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie. The club could use Fikayo Tomori as a makeweight in the deal to sign him and that gives them an advantage over other clubs such as Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham.
The 24-year-old has had an explosive season in Serie A so far. The dynamic box-to-box midfielder has appeared in 29 league games and has a tally of 10 goals and 5 assists from midfield.
He is certainly one of the major reasons behind Milan’s charge for the Scudetto. They sit 2nd in the table, 11 points behind leaders and rivals Inter Milan.
Now, it has been said that Kessie has refused Milan’s new contract offer of €3.5m per year. The problem for Milan here is that his contract runs out in 2022 and they might have to sell him next season if they are to avoid losing him for free.
Among all the clubs that are after Kessie, Chelsea hold one huge advantage. Kessie is a midfielder that Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel ‘dreams’ of signing. In order to make that happen, the club could look to use defender Fikayo Tomori as a makeweight.
The 23-year-old Englishman joined the Rossoneri on loan in the January transfer window and has already made quite the impression on the coaches at his new club. Milan have the option of making his transfer permanent at the end of this season.
Chelsea are not without a shortage of midfielders, at least on paper. Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, and Mateo Kovacic are already doing well and sharing game time under Tuchel in central midfield. With his best years ahead of him and plenty of experience at the top level, Kessie can be a fine signing for Chelsea.
