Transfer News: Chelsea can sign Jesus Corona for €25m if they wait till June
According to Portuguese news outlet TVI24 (h/t Sport Witness), Chelsea can seal the transfer of FC Porto winger Jesus Corona for €25m if the club waits till June.
Corona, 28, has been with Porto since 2015, having signed from Dutch club FC Twente and has grown into a key player for the Dragons. Till date, the right-winger has made over 250 appearances for the Portuguese giants, scoring 31 goals in the process. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Capped by the Mexican national team on 45 occasions, Corona has been on Chelsea’s radars for a while with reports earlier this week claiming that the Blues were preparing to sign him for €30m – his current release clause. (h/t Sport Witness)
However, as per the latest update, Corona’s €30m clause holds only till May and will drop down to €25m from June onwards, meaning the Blues could snap up his signing for €5m lesser if they are prepared to wait till June.
Chelsea got a good look at Corona when the Blues took on FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. While we emerged victorious on aggregate, Porto gave a good account of themselves. Corona, though, did not have the best of times across the two legs.
Nevertheless, he has been in good form for Sergio Conceicao’s side so far this term, producing a return of three goals and twelve assists from 44 games in all competitions. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Whether that is enough to convince to Chelsea to take the plunge and secure the transfer of Corona from Porto remains to be seen.
