According to the Irish Independent, Thomas Tuchel is of the belief that Kai Havertz is not a player who will lead the Chelsea line like Diego Costa. The German youngster ended his Premier League goal drought after his wonder goal against Crystal Palace.
A win over Palace was the best preparation one could have asked for heading into a crucial second leg of the Champions League quarter-final.
This win capped off a splendid performance with the likes of Pulisic and Havertz impressing, two players who have found it rather difficult to find the net.
Kai Havertz shifted to his favoured false-nine role and scored a peach of a goal after just eight minutes on the clock. It gave Chelsea the lead and set the tone for the game.
However, Tuchel felt the need to clarify that Havertz is not a player who will spearhead the attack like Diego Costa once did for the club.
“He is simply not that guy that you will fully feel or see enraged. For some, you feel they have to fight with others to get a certain momentum. He is not a Diego Costa kind of guy, this is simple and I will never demand he will become this.
Sometimes you cannot confuse with his body language that he does not give everything. He is a very quiet character but he is very well aware of his quality. I can just repeat he stepped up.”
Tuchel will be pleased with the way Havertz has started to play. It has been a tough first season for the former Leverkusen man as he has been trying to adjust to English football. However, with the false-nine role looking more suitable for him, one can expect him to continue in the same.
