Talismanic captain set to return for Champions League opponents ahead of Chelsea clash

Injury Update: Real Madrid set to welcome Sergio Ramos back for Chelsea tie in the UEFA Champions League

A report by AS English mentions that both Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos have set a date for the Spanish defender’s return, which is 5th May, on the day they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The two giants of European football go head-to-head in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals and Madrid are now positive of having Ramos back for the second leg. Zinedine Zidane operates with a zero-risk policy and won’t rush Ramos back until he is totally fit.

But the Spaniard has already begun training at Valdebebas with the fitness coach. And the club plans on giving him minutes against Osasuna in La Liga before playing him against the 2011/12 Champions League winners. (h/t AS English)

The Spanish veteran has missed Madrid’s last 6 games but has now finally recovered from Covid-19 as he looks to complete his comeback from a calf injury. Before that, he underwent knee surgery.

Ramos boost for Madrid

But it seems his time on the treatment table is over and Chelsea’s task is a little tougher. Ramos’ situation will be much clearer once Madrid play Osasuna on Saturday, 1st May.

Ramos or not, Madrid are a tough side to beat but the Spaniard adds that leadership and threat from set pieces. If Chelsea manage to see off the 13-time European Cup/Champions League winners, this will be their first final in the competition in 9 years.

The first leg of the fixture is to be played in the Spanish capital on Tuesday night. The Blues just beat West Ham United in a very intense game on Saturday and don’t have long to recover before the players fly out to Madrid.

But while Chelsea are fighting for the top 4, Madrid are also in a title race and don’t possess the luxury of resting their key players for the semi-final tie.
