According to Metro, Micah Richards has labelled Chelsea as dark horses for the Champions League title this season. The Blues have a quarter-final set up with Porto after overcoming Atletico Madrid in the round of 16.
Lampard was let go in January after a dismal run of results and failure to turn around the same, something the former City full-back did not like. Thomas Tuchel was brought in soon after and the German has revived the club and their hopes of Champions League football for next season.
Richards labelled the Blues as dark horses for this season’s Champions League.
‘Chelsea are dark horses you know. I did a piece a couple of months ago saying it’s a disgrace that Frank Lampard is out the door. And then Tuchel comes in and I was like, “how’s that? No!”
He added that he was proven wrong about Thomas Tuchel’s appointment.
‘But actually look at them now. They’ve only conceded like two or three goals. They’ve got Porto next and then Real Madrid or Liverpool. Neither of them are playing that well and then next thing, they’re in the final!’
Chelsea topped their group and then were paired with Atletico Madrid in the last round. They dispatched them with ease over two legs and were handed a decent draw with Porto.
The international break is over and the players are returning to the club. The Blues return to action this weekend against West Brom and then have a Champions League game with Porto in the midweek.
