“I feel free” – Tuchel insists he wants to continue at Chelsea for a long time

Thomas Tuchel wants to stay at Chelsea for a long time

According to news from Sky Sports, Thomas Tuchel wants to remain at Chelsea for a long time. The German manager feels that he is a part of the Blues family and wants to show that he deserves a new contract.

Thomas Tuchel joined Chelsea back in late January after the club decided to sack Frank Lampard. In Lampard’s second season in charge, Chelsea were way off pace, especially considering the significant investments made into the squad.

The likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Hakim Ziyech arrived for big money but failed to settle into the side.

Chelsea and Abramovich took the decision to appoint Tuchel in the aftermath. Since then, the club have seen a complete turnaround in their fortunes. The Blues have lost just one in 12 league games, climbing up to 5th and with a realistic shot at the top four.

The club have fared even better in cup competitions. In the Champions League, Chelsea were thrown a daunting tie against Atletico Madrid but managed to win both legs.

Next came Porto and now Chelsea are in the semi-finals of the competition after 7 years. The Blues are also in the FA Cup final after toppling Man City.

Tuchel was initially handed an 18-month contract which ends in 2022. However, with the start he has made, there was always bound to be talks about extending his stay at the club. Nonetheless, Tuchel has refused to be drawn into that and wants to prove himself before earning a new deal.

“I demand to deliver, to have an impact and be the best I can. If I deserve to stay, I want to stay as long as possible. I feel like part of the family, it is super professional, we have unbelievable support and I want to fight on the touchline with this team.

I don’t care what the contract says. If I deserve to stay longer, I will stay longer. I feel free and good, I’m at the right place. If I want to stay long, I need to deliver week in, week out.”

The former PSG boss has shown that he can take Chelsea to new heights. The side looks way more solid and even created history by putting together a 14-game unbeaten run.

Tuchel does deserve to be handed a new contract but all this should be reserved for after-season so as to remain focused on the job at hand.
