Yet another Chelsea target could be on his way to Real Madrid

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Champions League tie to go ahead as per schedule

According to news from Football.london, Chelsea and Real Madrid will play their Champions League semifinal as scheduled. The tie was doubtful as UEFA were mulling over the possibility of handing out punishments to the aforementioned clubs.

As the dust somewhat settles on the rubble of the European Super League – a closed league of 12 elite European clubs to rival the Champions League and generate more revenue, the aftermath will be very interesting to see. Apart from Real Madrid and Barcelona, all the other 10 clubs have officially announced their withdrawal from the ESL.

Nonetheless, given how the clubs went ahead with the plan, it was bound to leave some repercussions. After all, they did go up against the wishes of the UEFA. Five out of the 12 clubs are still involved in UEFA’s club competitions. Chelsea, Real Madrid and Man City are in the semi-finals of the Champions League while Manchester United and Arsenal are in the same stage in the Europa League.

With several punishments being proposed for the clubs this season itself, Chelsea and Real Madrid could have been the first clubs to get hit, with both facing disqualification and the semifinal being disbanded. However, after a meeting between Alexander Ceferin and the legal team, it has emerged that the ties will go ahead as scheduled. That will apply to the aforementioned clubs too.

Nonetheless, there is still the possibility that all these clubs including Chelsea face some sort of action from UEFA and the Premier League next season. Both bodies were strictly against the ESL but so far, there has been no word on possible sanctions.
