Thiago Silva sends message to fans after red card costs Chelsea win vs West Brom
Chelsea defender, Thiago Silva, apologized to the fans and took responsibility via social media for his red card against West Bromwich Albion. (h/t football.london)
The Brazilian defender was sent off against the Baggies in the 29th minute for a second bookable offence. The sending off came just 2 minutes after Christian Pulisic fired Chelsea in front.
Silva had just returned from an injury that had kept him out for 10 matches in all competitions. His red card proved to be the telling moment as Chelsea completely crumbled from thereon.
West Brom scored the next four goals before 2nd-half substitute, Mason Mount, could score a consolation. And Sam Allardyce’s side further twisted the dagger with a late goal to seal the 5-2 scoreline.
Time to move on
The Brazilian defender took to his social media account after Tuchel’s first defeat as Chelsea boss to accept his mistake. A part of his caption read:
“I believe it was not an expulsion move, I haven’t seen the video yet, but the referee made his decision and we can’t change what happened. I assume my responsibility for the expulsion, which unfortunately directly affected the result of the game…”
The result leaves Chelsea just 2 points clear of 5th-placed Liverpool, who are now breathing down their necks for the 4th spot after their impressive 3-0 battering of Arsenal.
Silva’s suspension is domestic and that means he could still be involved in Chelsea’s midweek UEFA Champions League game against FC Porto.
