“Lost the connection”: Thomas Tuchel opens up on difficult situation of Chelsea star amid exit speculations

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel explains why Tammy Abraham isn’t playing regularly

According to the Mirror, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has opened up on the current situation of striker Tammy Abraham amid question marks over his future.

Abraham, a product of the Chelsea youth academy, had his big breakthrough in the first-team last term. And even though he made a solid impression, the England international hasn’t been a regular in the side this term.

The arrival of Timo Werner last summer coupled with Olivier Giroud’s contributions saw Abraham slip down the pecking order of things at Chelsea.

Things have gotten much harder for him under Tuchel, who hasn’t used him all that regularly. This, despite Abraham being our top scorer this term with 12 goals. As a result, speculations of a summer exit have been doing the rounds of late. (h/t Mirror)

Tuchel, while speaking to the press, admitted that Abraham has had a tough time and also added that the team has been doing very well without him.

“Tammy had a bit of a rough time. He started twice or three times and was twice substituted for tactical reasons at half-time. He could not have the impact he demands from himself and we wish from him.

“Then he was injured and lost a bit the connection and possibility to fight for his place in the squad. The squad has played very well without him, we’ve had a lot of results without him.”

Tuchel did leave the doors open for Abraham to force his way back in but insisted that it is not easy for him to change his plans in the final run-in of the season.

“Now we’re in the decisive part of the season where it’s not so easy to bring players who are injured into the shape. We have only three changes, which is a big, big thing. So circumstances are not easy but it’s on Tammy to do everything possible to let him out. We have a full squad now.”

More Chelsea News:

Tuchel’s words don’t really offer much hope and optimism for Abraham going forward. In addition, with the club pursuing a transfer for Romelu Lukaku, the 23-year-old could get pushed further down the pecking order.

As things stand, it could be goodbye for Abraham at Chelsea in the summer.
