Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was hopeful that Christian Pulisic did not suffer any serious injury in the West Brom game (h/t Football.london). The forward appeared to have blown his hamstring during half-time and was subsequently taken off in the second half.
The Blues succumbed to their first loss under Thomas Tuchel but it was a mess of their own making, with Thiago Silva getting sent off in the first half. That left Chelsea short on numbers for the whole game and they conceded five.
It was Christian Pulisic’s only second start under Tuchel and first goal since December. As both sets of players emerged, there was a hold-up, with Werner originally being planned to be taken off but Mount came on instead.
Tuchel spoke about the hamstring issue after the game hoping that it was nothing too serious.
“He was injured, he had to go off because of a hamstring injury. I hope it’s not too bad. In the beginning, he said he could continue but once he got back out on the field he felt that it was too much and that he couldn’t risk it. I hope it is not an injury, just a problem.”
Chelsea have a hectic week and a half to come, with Porto to face twice and Manchester City in the FA Cup after that. At a time like this, having someone like Pulisic unavailable does cause problems, especially with N’Golo Kante also out.
