According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has downplayed his angry rant against Timo Werner during the game against Everton.
During the Blues’ 2-0 win over Everton on Monday, Tuchel was seen shouting at Werner over his positioning on the field.
“Timo, how long are you staying on the left? You’re playing on the right! The last 15 mins you’ve only been on the left! Don’t you understand?”
However, the German tactician has shrugged off the incident, insisting that he has mellowed down a great deal on the touchline compared to his earlier days in management.
“In terms of my emotions on the side-line, you should have seen me 10 years ago! It was double and triple. When I was on the bench, no one was safe so I calmed down a lot, which is always necessary because it is not always right to express your feelings all the time right away.”
Tuchel then elaborated on his reaction to Werner, insisting that it was direct and wasn’t meant to be disrespectful in any way.
“It was very direct and in the moment. Without spectators, it can happen that things like this get out there. We reminded him but it was not an insult or aggressive. It was direct. In the end if it is respectful and not insulting each other (it is fine).”
Tuchel, in his short time at the Bridge, has developed a reputation of being a no-nonsense manager. The likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham had been at the receiving end of some harsh words from the German before Werner.
Nevertheless, his arrival has been greeted with a lot of positivity, considering the turnaround he has managed at the club in a short time. The Blues are fourth in the table, just three points off of Leicester in third and four below second-placed Manchester United.
