According to SportsMole, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel assured that there is still time to discuss a new deal with Thiago Silva. The veteran Brazilian has become an important part of the side since his arrival from PSG this season.
The 36-year-old joined Chelsea this summer and despite his age, has seamlessly adapted to the fast-paced nature of the Premier League. He has already played more than 20 games this season. However, he did miss a few with injuries as Andreas Christensen took over in the interim.
Currently, the former PSG man finds himself on the sidelines with a hamstring issue but talks of a contract are underway.
The 36-year-old has a one-year extension in his contract, which can be triggered by mutual agreement. Tuchel spoke about the same and insisted that there is still time to sort things out.
“About his contract it’s too early and not the surrounding now to speak about it. It’s between him and the club, and me and the club, we will take this decision together.”
Silva’s experience and leadership are visible on the pitch, and Chelsea look a far more secure side with him in the line-up. Chelsea have kept 9 league clean sheets out of the 17 games he has played in so far.
It remains to be seen when both parties can come to an agreement, with a crunch run of games to come after the international break. Chelsea would surely want to keep Silva for at least another season before deciding on the future.
