Transfer News: Chelsea target Romelu Lukaku could be sold by Inter Milan
According to news outlet Daily Star, Chelsea have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku with Inter Milan open to transfer offers for the Belgian.
Lukaku is no stranger to Chelsea having first arrived at Stamford Bridge last decade. However, he never really got a fair shot at first-team football in West London before he joined Everton and flourished.
Following two fruitful seasons at Manchester United, Lukaku joined Inter Milan in the summer of 2019 where he has taken his game up a notch and become one of the top strikers across Europe.
Lukaku’s form has been the driving force behind Inter Milan’s push for the Serie A title this term while he also looks strongly positioned to finish as the top scorer in the Italian top-flight.
However, Inter Milan’s current financial plight due to the coronavirus could force them into selling one of their top players this term. And the Nerazzurri could thus be willing to listen to offer for Lukaku or his strike partner Lautaro Martinez in the summer.
This should come as music to the ears of Chelsea, who are considering a transfer for Lukaku this summer. The Blues bolstered their attack with Timo Werner last summer but the German has been shy of goals.
So, manager Thomas Tuchel is hoping to add another centre-forward with Erling Haaland as the top target. However, given the competition for his services, Lukaku has been identified as an alternative. (h/t The Telegraph)
