Manchester United could sanction Dean Henderson sale amid Chelsea interest
Talking on the Transfer Window podcast (h/t Express), Duncan Castles stated that Manchester United could sanction a transfer for Dean Henderson as he continues to be linked with Chelsea.
The 23-year-old came through the youth academy of the Red Devils. He made his reputation at Sheffield United on a two-year loan spell, from which he returned last summer.
Since then, the Englishman has had to settle for being the club’s number 2 goalkeeper. David de Gea continues to be United’s first-choice goalkeeper between the sticks.
And that has made Henderson settle for gametime in cup competitions. He has made just 4 Premier League appearances this season and would undoubtedly be looking for more time on the pitch.
Battle for Henderson
Castles notes that Henderson is not pleased with the time he is getting. And he mentions that United could spring a surprise by letting him and look for a ‘better solution’ in goal elsewhere.
“What I think is going to catch Henderson by surprise is the idea that United might just say: ‘Thank you very much, if you aren’t happy waiting, we’ll let you go to one of those other Premier League teams and we’ll take up an option of signing another goalkeeper from elsewhere because we’ve found what we think is the better solution’.”
The report also mentions that Chelsea are not the only party interested. Other London clubs such as West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are also linked with the Manchester United goalkeeper.
If the reports are true, then Henderson would not be a bad option to have in the team as competition for Edouard Mendy. But Kepa Arrizabalaga already being the club’s second-choice goalkeeper might complicate the situation.

Chelsea signed 29-year-old Senegalese goalkeeper Mendy from Ligue 1 last summer. He would be tough to displace as he has kept 12 league clean sheets already in the Premier League. (h/t transfermarkt)
