Thomas Tuchel provides an injury update on Chelsea star Tammy Abraham
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel provided some insight on Tammy Abraham and his injury issue (h/t Football.london). There has been a lot of speculation over Abraham’s future given that he has fallen to the fringes under Tuchel.
Abraham broke into the first-team last season under Frank Lampard and was a vital part of the side that finished fourth. With a transfer ban last season, Abraham made full use of the opportunities handed to him and went on to score 15 goals.
However, the England international has seen his place slip down after the arrival of Thomas Tuchel and Timo Werner. The likes of Werner, Kai Havertz and Olivier Giroud have been preferred ahead of the academy graduate.
Then there has been his injury from the Newcastle game that has further scuppered his chances to feature. He did play a few minutes against Southampton but was soon hooked off and has not featured since. Thomas Tuchel provided an update on this niggling issue.
“Yes, he quit training yesterday after a five-minute warm-up so there was more or less no chance he could join the squad today [vs Sheffield United].
“It was the same injury, more or less, but he had a re-injury in more or less the same spot where the first injury was, so he is in pain. He had to quit the session after five minutes with no chance he could join us today.”

It has been a season of frustration for the academy graduate that has seen him sidelined with an injury and slipping down the pecking order. There is still no timeframe provided on his return but Abraham will be hoping it’s sooner rather than later.
